Small Grants Programme Guide 2026

Thank you for your interest and engaging with the Churchill Foundation, our Small Grants Programme provides meaningful, targeted support to individuals, charities, and community organisations connected to the Churchill community, that satisfies at least one of our core aims.

Our aim is simple: to ensure every grant delivers genuine impact, positive change, and tangible outcomes.

Our focus is needs, not niceties. Small Grants are intended to fund something essential - support that would not be possible without our help. To help us make fair and informed decisions, applicants must provide a clear explanation of need and a transparent breakdown of costs. The full guide and eligibility criteria is shared on the following page, a flow chart below gives a high level snap shot regarding eligibility.

To apply, you must meet all of the following:

a) You must have a Churchill referrer

All applications must be supported by a Churchill colleague, Owner, or Business Partner.

  • The referrer helps us understand:
  • why this request matters
  • who is involved
  • what kind of support will make the biggest difference

If you do not have a Churchill connection through one of these groups, unfortunately you are not eligible to apply.

b) Your request must align with at least one of our charitable aims

  • Promotion of health among older people
  • Relief of sickness, disease, and human suffering
  • Support and wellbeing of younger generations

c) You must demonstrate clear need

Your application must show genuine personal need or community impact. We are unable to fund:

  • general donations
  • top-ups
  • contributions to large national fundraising campaigns

d) Geographic relevance

We prioritise support for communities in areas where the Churchill Living Group builds and operates. We are unable to offer funding for projects based in London, Scotland, or Ireland,or for international projects.

To keep the programme focused on the causes we’re best placed to support, we do not fund applications relating to:

  • sports teams or clubs
  • schools
  • religious organisations or activity
  • animal charities
  • horticulture projects

We are also unable to support:

  • political or campaigning activity
  • commercial ventures
  • projects already completed
  • activity intended to replace statutory funding

If you’re unsure whether your request is eligible, please email enquiries@churchillfoundation.co.uk

Either party can complete the form:

  • the Churchill colleague / Owner / Business Partner (referrer), or
  • the individual / charity / community organisation being supported

However, the form must always include a named Churchill referrer who provides background and context.

a) The role of the Churchill referrer

The referrer does not need to manage the application. Their role is to:

  • support the application
  • explain the story / reason behind the
    request
  • confirm the connection
  • be contactable if clarification is needed

They provide context, not necessarily
administration.

b) The role of the applicant (the Churchill referrer can complete the form, it doesn’t always need to go to the applicant)

The applicant is responsible for:

  • describing the need
  • completing the breakdown of funds
  • adding supporting information (if available)
  • submitting the application

They provide the practical detail.

Before you start, please have:

  • the name and contact details of your Churchill referrer
  • a clear description of what the funding is for,and why it’s essential
  • total amount requested and an itemised breakdown of costs
  • who will benefit and what impact is
    expected
  • any supporting documents if available

How the application works

  1. Check eligibility (Churchill referrer +charitable aims + geography + exclusions)
  2. Prepare your information (need, costs, who benefits, any supporting evidence)
  3. Complete the application form (either the referrer or applicant can complete it)
Submit online or by email to enquiries@churchillfoundation.co.uk
  4. Trustee review at the next scheduled meeting (approximately quarterly)
  5. Decision and next steps (we will be in touch to let you know the outcome)

Please complete the application form online and add any supporting documents, or if completed by hand please email to:
enquiries@churchillfoundation.co.uk

You will receive an acknowledgement once your application is received.

Decisions are made at scheduled trustee meetings (approximately quarterly). Incomplete applications may be deferred to the next cycle.

Please note:
Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee funding. All applications are carefully considered on a case by case basis, and funding decisions remain at the discretion of the Churchill Foundation.
